Hi I'm Alex, the founder of Kapwa Kultura. Kapwa Kultura was born from a deep love for Filipino identity, togetherness, and pride. I was made in the Philippines and born in the U.S.—this brand is a reflection of the culture, community, and heritage that shaped them.
I grew up in Daly City and spent part of my middle school years in Aklan, Philippines. As a kid I've experienced the vibrant energy of the Ati-Atihan festivals and parades, the warmth of Filipino family gatherings, and the endless calls to “Kain na!” from my aunties. These memories, along with a lifelong connection to my 50+ cousins, inspired a passion for preserving and showcasing Filipino culture.
I served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force and graduated as a civil engineer at SDSU. Growing up my mom constantly told me that I was going to be an engineer, I guess it worked. Through all that, I realized I wanted a way to express Filipino pride through apparel. I remembered going to a Filipino festival in high school and buying a brown shirt with the Philippine Islands on it. I was so excited because at that time there wasn't any clothing to express what I represent.
Kapwa Kultura exists to fill that gap. More than just clothing and jewelry, it’s a celebration of our shared history, our unity, and our love for one another. Every piece is designed to honor Filipino heritage, spark connections, and keep our culture alive—wherever we are in the world.
